Program

Participants represent Japan’s culture and heritage.

The Cultural Representative Program is part of Disney International Programs. The participant’s primary job is to share the culture, history and traditions of Japan while working in the Japan Pavilion at Epcot®. Participants apply for a Q-1 visa to work as an employee of Mitsukoshi USA Inc.

Work Experience

Sharing Japanese culture

Program participants work in the Japan Pavilion at Epcot, one of four theme parks at Walt Disney World Resort. Participants will be assigned to work on either the Food and Beverage or Merchandise team. The mission is “To provide authentic cultural experiences of Japan to guests of all generations in the world, while exceeding all expectations”

The Cultural Representative Role

There are several positions within the Food and Beverage and Merchandise teams. All positions share Japanese culture with our guests.

Merchandise Store

    Merchandise Store Guest Service.

    In this Merchandise role, you will recommend and explain merchandise items to our guests. On our team, we also provide entertainment for the “Pick A Pearl” interactive experiences.

Food & Beverage. Table Service Restaurant

    Table Service Restaurant. Guest Service.

    In this Food & Beverage role, you will welcome guests to our dining experiences and provide information about the two Mitsukoshi Restaurants. This position will be in charge of checking in guests for their reservations, assigning tables and guiding guests to their tables.

    Table Service Restaurant. Teppan Edo Server.

    As a Server in Teppan Edo restaurant, you will share your culture through Japanese cuisine and customize guest orders to be prepared table-side on a teppanyaki grill. You will also be responsible for serving food and drinks to our guests.

    Table Service Restaurant. Teppan Chef.

    As a Chef in Teppan Edo restaurant, you will perform onstage through a visual, culinary experience. As you entertain guests tableside while cooking on a teppanyaki grill, you will also share the culture and customs of Japan.

    Table Service Restaurant. Tokyo Dining Server.

    As a Server in Table Service Restaurant, you will welcome our guests to the vibrant setting of Tokyo, and introduce traditional Japanese food to the guests including sushi, tempura and udon. You will also be responsible for customizing orders and serving food and drinks to our guests.

    Table Service Restaurant. Sushi Chef.

    As a Sushi Chef in Table Service Restaurant, you will share the rich traditions of sushi making in an onstage kitchen. You will bring Japanese culture to life through beautiful works of art created from the freshest ingredients.

    Signature Restaurant. Takumi-Tei Guest Service.

    This position will be in charge of checking in guests for their reservations, assigning tables and guiding guests to their tables at our signature restaurant. Takumi-Tei Guest Service will also answer any inquiries from guests while working at the outside podium.

    Signature Restaurant. Takumi-Tei Server.

    Takumi-Tei, our signature restaurant, offers multi course meals. As a Server in signature restaurant, this position will introduce the story behind the menu items to guests while serving meals and drinks.

  • テーブルサービスレストラン バーテンダー

    Signature Restaurant. Takumi-Tei Bartender.

    Takumi-Tei offers a large variety of alcohol drinks. Bartender will prepare cocktails and other beverage items at the on-stage bar.

Food & Beverage. Quick Service Restaurant.

In this Quick Service role, you will be assigned to work at three different locations during the program.

  • Katsura Grill 接客販売

    Katsura Grill

    This position will explain and suggest menu items to guests and serve food and drinks. Katsura Grill offers Japanese cuisine in a casual setting. This location has larger variety of menu than other quick service locations.

  • Kabuki Cafe

    This kiosk located on the promenade offers shaved ice, snacks and drinks.

    Garden House

    This drink station offers variety of beverages includes alcohol drinks.

Store and Restaurants in Japan Pavilion

Our merchandise store and restaurants have a theme called “Japan: land of harmony, where tradition and innovation coexist”. The merchandise store is divided into four zones, and we offer three dining experiences in our pavilion. Guests will enjoy “a virtual experience to Japan” and “a journey to the land of harmony, tradition and modernity.”

Living

Living in the Disney Housing.

Participants reside in Disney-sponsored housing properties while sharing apartments with other Disney Internships & Programs participants from around the world. The Disney Housing team arranges the housing assignments, and participants will meet their roommates once they arrive at their apartment. It is possible to make a roommate request; however, this arrangement cannot be guaranteed. Every month, the Disney Housing team organizes fun, social events for participants. Participants are able to join the events and make friends from all over the world!

Learning

Opportunity to learn “Hospitality” from Disney and Mitsukoshi

Participants will start their learning experience from the moment they accept their offer for the program. Mitsukoshi will provide our standard service seminars and other related seminars that will help train participants to interact with guests in English. Participants will learn the customer service style provided by Mitsukoshi and Disney. At the end of the program, participants will have a greater knowledge of the hospitality business, and training from two world-renowned companies from Japan and the U.S.
 
After the program, participants will have the skills and confidence to work in other companies in Japan or overseas.

Pre-departure education

Online Pre-departure Orientation & Self Learning Participants will receive useful information using our online learning platform to getting ready for living and working in Orlando. The self-learning courses will prepare participants to become familiar with Mitsukoshi Look and basic knowledges that you will need to become a Cultural Representative.

Seminars for after arrival.

Hospitality English Participants will learn how to appropriately communicate with guests using proper English. This seminar is designed to teach participants how to interact with guests from all over the world. After this class, participants are able to express “hospitality with sincerity” by verbal communication.
Omotenashi Seminars This is a mandatory session for all onstage employees who are working in the Japan Pavilion. They will learn the Japanese service manner. Our goal is to make our guests feel like they are really in Japan. In order to create this experience, participants will learn to work with a hospitality mindset.
